Each piece of baggage must not exceed 23kg. Baggage over 32kgs will not be accepted. If the baggage is less than 32kgs it will be charged NZ$50 oversize bag fee if unable to be repacked into another bag (where additional baggage fees will apply).

Domestic New Zealand flights (tickets issued from 26 May 10)
Smart Saver - 1 piece, maximum 23 kg
Flexi Plus - 2 pieces, maximum 23 kg each
Gold Elite / Gold / Star Gold and Koru Club Members 1 additional piece, maximum 23 kg each

For all domestic flights:
- In addition to other allowances, baby strollers and car seats are permitted free of charge
- Medical/life equipment as well as a maximum of two wheel chairs are carried free when accompanied by the person who requires them
- Separately bagged sports equipment counts as one piece
- If travellers are on a domestic flight as part of an international ticket, then the international checked baggage allowance applies

International travel (tickets issued from 26 May 10)
Economy - 1 piece, max weight 23kg (50 lbs)
Premium Economy* - -2 pieces, max weight 23kg (50 lbs) per piece
Business* - 3 pieces, max weight 23kg (50 lbs) per piece
Gold Elite / Gold / Star Gold and Koru Club Members - 1 additional piece per person, max 23kg (max 3 pieces)

* This Premium Economy and Business baggage allowance applies on Air New Zealand flights. If part of your journey includes codeshare flights or flights on other airlines you will need to check the operating carriers' websites for their allowance.

For all flights:
- In addition to other allowances, strollers and car seats are permitted free of charge.
- Any piece of baggage that weighs over 23kg but less than 32kg will be subject to an overweight charge.
- The maximum weight limit of 32kg (70lbs) for any individual piece of baggage is an industry standard. It does not relate to your overall entitlement but is a safety measure to reduce injuries to baggage handling staff. Any item over 32kgs will require repacking
- Each piece of baggage should not exceed total dimensions (length + width + height) of 158cm (62")

CABIN BAGGAGE
In addition to your allowance, you may also carry on board personal items such as an overcoat, handbag, walking stick, camera or slimline laptop. As a safety precaution, all cabin baggage must be able to fit in the overhead lockers or under the seat in front of you. Laptops in a thin satchel are considered a personal item, however laptops in larger computer bags are counted as one piece of cabin baggage.
Prohibited items

Domestic New Zealand Flights
- Customers may take 1 piece of cabin baggage with a maximum weight of 7kg (15lbs) onboard Air New Zealand Jet and Link flights. Dimensions for Jet services1 should not exceed 115cm ( 56cm width, 36cm height and 23cm depth), laptop bag or briefcase no more than 60cm (width), 11cm (height) and 114cm (length) for a suit pack or garment bag.
- Dimensions for customers travelling on Link2 services are 105cm which generally means a bag should be no more than 48cm (width), 34cm (height) and 23cm (depth).
- Star Alliance Gold Customers (including Airpoints Gold and Gold Elite) are permitted 2 pieces with the same conditions as above.

International Flights
- Pacific Economy Class customers may take 1 piece of carry-on baggage with a maximum weight of 7kg (15lbs) and maximum total dimensions (length + width + height) of 115cm (45").
- Business Class, Premium Economy* and Star Alliance Gold customers (including Airpoints Gold and Gold Elite) are permitted two pieces of cabin baggage with a maximum weight of 7kg (15lbs) and maximum total dimensions (length + width + height) of 115cm (45").
- Exception: Only one piece is permitted for travel to, through or from USA.

This Premium Economy baggage allowance only applies on Air New Zealand flights. If part of your journey includes codeshare flights or flights on other airlines the baggage allowance for Economy will apply.
