American to Offer Nonstop Service to Budapest

American Airlines inaugurated its new service from New York’s John F. Kennedy (JFK) International Airport toBudapest Ferihegy International Airport in Hungary, on April 5. The new service is one of many new flights and scheduling changes that American Airlines and its Oneworld alliance partners—including Malev and Iberia—are making this year.

American’s new flight AA158 from JFK to Budapest will depart at 6:40 p.m. and arrive in Budapest at 9:30 a.m. on the following day using a Boeing 767-300 aircraft with 225 seats, of which 30 are Business Class and 195 are Economy Class. The return flight AA159 will depart from Budapest at 11:55 a.m., arriving at JFK at 3:35 p.m. American Airlines has teamed up with Oneworld partner, Malev, to schedule these new flights so that customers can make easy connections at American’s JFK hub and Malev’s Budapest hub.

Through June 30, American Airlines passengers who fly roundtrip between JFK and Budapest can earn 15,000 AAdvantage bonus miles for travel in Business Class and 10,000 bonus miles for full-fare Economy Class. To qualify, they must register prior to travel using promotion code NYBUD at www.aa.com/moreeurope.

In addition to the new flights to/from Budapest, American Airlines is also expanding its service from JFK to Barcelona’s El Prat Airport from seven nonstop weekly flights to 11 beginning today, April 6. The airline is also increasing its service from Miami International Airport (MIA) to Madrid’s Barajas Airport from 7 to 13 nonstop flights this week beginning April 6. Partner airline Iberia also launched new nonstop thrice-weekly service between Miami and Barcelona on March 29.

Iberia’s new service from Barcelona to Miami operates on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Flight 6127 departs from Barcelona at 1:30 p.m. and arrives at MIA at 6:10 p.m. The return Flight 6126 departs from Miami at 7:45 p.m. and arrives at Barcelona 11 a.m. the following day.

The new expanded service follows the news that American Airlines and its Oneworld alliance partners—British Airways and Iberia—have, for the first time ever, coordinated their schedules for flights across the North Atlantic. The newly aligned schedule, which took effect March 27, offers customers 15 daily flights between New York and London.

Eger
The city of Eger, with its one thousand-year history, heroic past, rich monuments, famous wines and thermal baths is one of the most famous towns of Hungary. Eger is usually considered to be a historic town, yet it is also noted for its splendid Baroque architecture, wine, thermal and medicinal waters and lively student population. It became an episcopal seat as early as the 1th century, during the reign of St. Stephen, the first king of Hungary. Disaster struck the town many times: it was practically destroyed during the invasion of the Tatars, but its fortress, built in the 13th century, played a major role in defence during the wars of the Turkish era. Captain István Dobó and a handful of his soldiers withstood the attack of the Turkish army 40 times superior in force to his 2000 defenders for 38 days in 1552, and eventually forced the Turks to withdraw.

Siofok
Siofok Hungary is set on the southern shore of Lake Balaton and boasts a beach more than ten miles long. It’s the largest town on Hungary’s largest lake and has the greatest beach area. As such, it is one of the most fashionable resorts in the country, drawing tourists from nearby Budapest and all over Hungary. The lake is quite shallow with an average depth only ten feet so a Siofok holiday is quite attractive to families with young children. Such shallow water also means invitingly warm water temperatures (about 80 degrees Fahrenheit) in the summer. Foreign visitors also travel to Siofok from the rest of Europe, the U.K., and increasingly from the United States.
